Despite the threats, he stood firm, fighting for the future of true mezcal.<\/p><p data-start=\"1794\" data-end=\"2326\">In <strong data-start=\"1797\" data-end=\"1805\">1972<\/strong>, his efforts culminated in a historic <strong data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"1864\">mezcalero strike<\/strong>, documented at the <strong data-start=\"1884\" data-end=\"1904\">Museum of Mezcal<\/strong>. Together with fellow producers, including <strong data-start=\"1948\" data-end=\"1996\">Don Bernardino Jim\u00e9nez and Prisciliano Mateo<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1998\" data-end=\"2013\">Juan Sernas<\/strong> organized a <strong data-start=\"2026\" data-end=\"2052\">two-month-long protest<\/strong> in Santiago Matatl\u00e1n, blocking distribution to intermediaries and adulterators. Their goal was clear: <strong>to prevent the industrialization and adulteration of mezcal<\/strong> by producers who added sugars, artificial accelerators, and cane alcohol to increase profits.<\/p><p data-start=\"2328\" data-end=\"2705\">Their movement gained momentum, drawing in mezcaleros from San Dionisio Ocotepec, San Juan del R\u00edo, San Luis del R\u00edo, San Baltasar Guelavila, San Baltasar Chichicapam, El Camar\u00f3n, and Totolapan.
